Established in 1969 the BCBFR has continued to improve on our services through the years. In August of 1969 after a major structure fire city officals called a meeting with West Brickland Beach VFD and East Brickland Beach VFD members. The meetings ending result was a merger between the departments to operate as one. As all the members were discussing the guidelines and results of the merger, city officials realised that the property that EBCVFD's station is on, is privately owned. The owner would not donate the land and building over to the newly formed BCBFD. With that said, WBVFD took both of their trucks and relocated them to the newly built fire station. In 1981 the first paid member was hired and took the first shift, at that time there were 17 volunteers and 1 paid firefighter that worked from 7AM to 7PM. In 1984 The station was added onto so more paid personel could be stationed there. 1984 also marked the year of Station 2 being built and a brand new Pierce Dash engine(Our first new engine). Early 1992 marked the beginning of construction for the new station 1 to acommadate the further expansion of the department.
In 1998 with getting more and more requests to respond on medical calls the department made a huge step within the community becoming the first BLS(Basic Life Support) department in the area. All trucks were equipped with BLS equipment at that time. In 2002 Station 2 saw renovations to the exterior along with the living quarters and apparatus room. In 2005 the department made another huge step and purchased our first modern aerial, Ladder 4 is a "Quint". It can operate as an engine, or a truck company to an extent.
In 2011 the chief made a push for the department to go ALS(Advanced Life Support). With the help of the local hospital, 12 of our personel are paramedic certified. Early 2011 also marked the year the department started training for Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) in more depth. We hope to become a fully certified state task force within the next couple of years.
In early 2012 the department received a very generous donation from Brick City Steel Inc. A building, an older metal works building, including two bays and tons of space for living quarters and other areas within the building. By May the city had started refurbishing the building and building living quarters and training area inside the station. Station 4 is now the center of most training activities with it's large indoor and outdoor areas. September Marks the entire department being ALS certified. Now all front line engines have ALS equipment.
